Forest Lake Area Schools, in partnership with the Lakes Center for Youth & Families, received a $48,636 grant on April 13 to support a project related to school-based mental health. The purpose of the grant is to reach out to students in grades 9 to 12 at Forest Lake Area High School and the Alternative Learning Center who may need counseling and assistance on issues related to mental health, and possibly advice on what a healthy lifestyle and mindset looks like.
The project is expected to help serve 50 to 80 students whose families are either uninsured or underinsured and are not able to pay the copay for mental health services that they need.
Goals of the program include bridging a partnership in order to remove barriers by offering mental health counseling and support on site at FLAHS and the ALC; training district staff, administrators, and others about mental health issues affecting
