Wyoming rolls out the red carpet for students

Wyoming Elementary, in an effort to let each student and staff member know how important they are, welcomed back students with a red carpet event on Aug. 21. A “Wildcat” greeting was waiting for each student as they pulled into the parking lot with teachers holding up welcome back signs.
The main entrance to the school held a balloon arch, a red carpet walk-way was rolled out, and lots of music was played as each family entered the building. As part of the event, a ROAR pep-fest was hosted the same day with a slide show presenting all the students and staff with summer photos.

American Pickers to film in Minnesota

Mike Wolfe, Frank Fritz, and their team are returning to Minnesota to film episodes of the hit series “American Pickers” throughout the region in October.
“American Pickers” is a documentary series that explores the world of antique “picking.” The show follows Wolfe and Fritz, two of the most skilled pickers in the business, as they hunt for America’s most valuable antiques. They are always excited to find sizeable, unique collections and learn the interesting stories behind them. As they hit the back roads from coast to coast, Wolfe and Fritz are on a mission to recycle and rescue forgotten relics. Along the way, the pickers want to meet characters with remarkable and exceptional items. Steve J. Bergum

Loving Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Son, Brother, UncleSteve J. Bergum, age 45 of Blaine, formerly of Forest Lake, passed away peacefully and courageously in the arms of the Lord on Sept. 22, 2017.
Steve enjoyed hiking, camping, and woodworking. He took pleasure in participating in his men’s church group.
Survived by wife, Amy; children, Meghan, Avrey, Sidney, Ashley (Shawn) Galbreth, Jordan Johnson; grandchildren, Evvalynn, Miles and Allie Galbreth; parents, Gerald and Ann Marie; siblings, Mark (Kim), Michelle (Joe) Blasius, Bruce (Sherri); mother-in-law, Linda Wood; father-in-law, Robert (Connie) Miller; sister-in-law, Natlie (Chad) Trembley; brother-in-law, Robert (Sarah) Miller; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Steve’s Life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27th with visitation beginning one hour prior at Grace Fellowship Church, 8601 101st Ave. N, Brooklyn Park. Interment at Constance Free Church Cemetery, Andover.

Diana Lynn Parson

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sisterDiana Lynn (Houle) Parson, age 62 of Forest Lake, was greeted in heaven by parents Gene and Lorraine Houle, mother and father-in-law Jim and Alice Parson and brother-in-law Doug Spielman on Sept. 23, 2017.
She was a cherished and beloved wife to her husband of 31 years, Jeffrey; mother of Travis (Kim) Parson and Kristi Parson; grandma to Easton and Cayden Parson; sister to Michele (Craig) Smith; sister-in-law to Steve Parson, Cindy Spielman and Jeannie (Mark) Meinert; and adored by her nieces and nephews.
Diana fought breast cancer three times with dignity, courage, humor, and most of all, love for her family and friends.
Celebration of Life Thursday, Sept. 28th at 3 p.m. at Pine Haven Farm, 28186 Kettle River Blvd. N., Wyoming MN 55092. Food will be served. Kid friendly venue. Memorials preferred to Parson Family.

New round of residency allegations surface

A Forest Lake resident addressed the Forest Lake City Council during its Sept. 25 meeting and made new claims regarding the residency of Councilman Michael Freer. Theodore “Ted” Norman Thomas

As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.With heavy hearts but joy-filled spirits, the family of Theodore “Ted” Norman Thomas of Forest Lake, MN, share that he went to be with Jesus and joined his wife of 61 years on September 16, 2017, at the age of 93, peacefully at home, surrounded by family. As a man, a father, a grandfather and friend, he left a legacy of blessing that few could match.
He was born April 11, 1924 in Hurley, WI to Percy and Elizabeth (Swanstrom) Thomas and grew up in Wisconsin and Michigan, spending most of his time working in the family car garage business. He met Edith Louise Thompson while in Army training in Missouri and they married June 2, 1945, while both were in the Service during WWII. Columbus council responds to local queries

In May, a 10-day speed study was conducted on the paved portion of Camp Three Road in Columbus. The results of the speed study were discussed at the Columbus City Council’s Sept. 13 meeting.broadstreet.zone(48036);
The Potomac end of the road had a daily average of 989 cars. The Kettle River end had a daily average of 725.5 cars. Although there were a few cars that went as slow as 26 mph and a few cars that went as fast as 61 mph, the average speed on Camp Three Road was 41 mph. Mayor Dave Povolny did not think posting speed limit signs on that road would make a difference. He pointed out that pedestrians are not supposed to be on that road and they could be ticketed.

Students invited to participate in LMC ‘Mayor for a Day’ essay contest

The League of Minnesota Cities is now accepting entries for the 2017 “Mayor for a Day” essay contest. Essays are due Oct. 13.
This year’s contest invites Minnesota students who will be in the fourth, fifth or sixth grades this school year to answer “If you were mayor for a day, what would you do to show people that local governments are good places to work?”
The League will select three winners who will each be awarded $100. Winning essays will be published in Minnesota Cities magazine.
