Listen live and make it local

Music is a thing that can affect people in an impossibly large number of ways. For many, connecting with a lyric or a singer’s voice or a song’s subject matter can elicit emotion like very few other things can. It is with this in mind that I am writing to promote the seeking out of live and local music and also to educate about how it can often be found for little to no cost.
Seeing a music show in a packed arena that seats 50,000 is certainly an experience in and of itself and is oftentimes the only possible way to see top-selling nationally known or world renowned artists. There is no problem with seeking out that kind of entertainment, but it is important to realize that there is also worthwhile music to be experienced at small venues in densely populated cities and towns, and oftentimes those events provide a

Ohman presents Escape to Minnesota Lakes

Doug Ohman, local author, storyteller, and photographer is the featured speaker at an annual fall brunch sponsored by the Fairview Lakes Medical Center Volunteer Organization. This year’s event will be held on Sept. 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Fairview Lakes Medical Center gift shop, Fairview Lakes Clinics, Carousel Hair Salon, and the Yellow Bus in Forest Lake. This year is the 20th anniversary of the founding of the volunteer organization at Fairview Lakes Medical Center, one year before the opening of the hospital. Volunteers from the former District Memorial Hospital in Forest Lake, Chisago Lakes Hospital, or Rush City Hospital are especially invited to attend. On July 29, 16-year-old Michael Ochsenbauer of Forest Lake soloed in a Cessna 172. Under the tutelage of his father, Tom Ochsenbauer, Michael performed his first three solo takeoffs and landings. Michael joins a large cadre of family members (13 in total) who have flown dating back to his grandfather, Robert Ochsenbauer, who soloed back in 1949.
