Wyoming native crowned Miss Teen of the Midwest
Krista Boudewyns of Wyoming was recently crowned Miss Teen of the Midwest 2017 in a ceremony held in St. Paul at Concordia University. Young ladies, ages 7 to 18, are eligible to participate in the program which culminates with a national competition in November in Orlando.
As Miss Teen of the Midwest 2017, Boudewyns will serve as an inclusion ambassador for American Pageants’ charitable campaign; Special Olympics’ Spread the Word to End the Word. As a titleholder in the American Pageants Organization, she will have the opportunity to compete for the national title of Miss Teen of America 2018 and over $30,000 in scholarships, cash, travel and prizes.broadstreet.zone(48036);
The candidates vying for the title of Miss Teen of America compete in six categories of judging including scholastic achievement; service to school and community; personal development; personality, poise, and projection in evening wear; a general awareness test; and interview.

The Forest Lake Dance Team is inviting young dancers in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade to attend a Lil Kickers Clinic at the high school Sept. 16 starting at 9 a.m. Dancers will learn two routines, culminating in an afternoon performance at the end of the clinic. In addition, attendees will perform their routines at halftime of the Ranger football game on Sept. 22. The clinic costs $40, which covers instruction, a t-shirt and pom-poms and an afternoon snack. NLA promotes emotional intelligence
Four years ago, educators at North Lakes Academy got together and engaged in conversation regarding what they could do to further ensure that graduates were as well-rounded as possible. The idea that was born out of those meetings spawned a new school curriculum called “Becoming.”

“The focus is on emotional intelligence and speaks not only to how our students learn, but also how they cope with hard situations and how they get through tough times. This program has had a tremendous effect on our culture.”
The Becoming curriculum strategy is focused on helping students find a path and purpose, as well as prepare them for college and career in the 21st Century. Each grade level engages in specific courses meant to increase self-awareness, promote community, expand worldview, and stimulate leadership skills.
