Supervisors change Linwood Town Hall hours

At the Aug. 7 meeting of the Linwood Town Board, the board voted to change the hours of the town hall. The question had come up at the previous meeting. Then, Town Clerk Pam Olson brought up several scheduling conflicts with limited staff in the office. Supervisors Ed Kramer and Bob Millerbernd discussed the possibility of closing the office early on Friday. The topic was sent to the Human Resources Committee supervisors, Carol Searing and Mike Halliday.broadstreet.zone(48036);
Searing and Halliday came to the Aug. 7 meeting with a proposed to schedule.
“We wanted to come up with something that was the most fair,” Halliday said. “We also wanted to have two people in the office at all times like Bob (Millerbernd) suggested.”
The proposed hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon on Friday. Kramer said that he would prefer to see the town

Young women sought for cabinet positions
Governor Mark Dayton, Lt. Governor Tina Smith, and the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota invite young women from across the state to apply for open positions with the Young Women’s Initiative of Minnesota. The Young Women’s Initiative of Minnesota currently has at least 14 cabinet vacancies to fill. Young women between the ages of 16 and 24, especially those from underrepresented communities, are invited to apply. Applications are available through the Office of the Governor and Lt. Governor by visiting mn.gov/governor/appointments, and will be accepted through Aug. 22.
“We must continue working to build a state where all Minnesotans have equal opportunity to succeed,” Governor Dayton said in a press release. “This partnership is an important step in improving equity and opportunity for young women in Minnesota, especially young women of color. Amanda Grace, Sunshine Parker, and Michael Gay were the featured singer/songwriters at the ninth edition of the Songwriters in the Round event hosted by the Wyoming Creative Arts Community at the Hallberg Center for the Arts in Wyoming. The next songwriter event will be held Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. and will feature Sarah Morris, Matthew French, and Doug Collins.

Dukes walk past Brewers at state

The Forest Lake Brewers were eliminated in the first round of the Class B state amateur baseball tournament at Hamburg on Aug. 19, losing to the Dundas Dukes 5-4.
The Brewers powered their way to an early 4-0 lead, but their bats were silent late in the game while the Dukes chipped away.broadstreet.zone(48036);
“It was disappointing to jump out early, but then our bats shut down,” manager Adam Gallatin said.
Third baseman Noah Brown hit a solo home run to lead off the top of the third. Center fielder Brent Kolbow and first baseman Adam Gemuenden drew one-out walks before catcher Mike Schultz brought everyone around to score with a three-run blast over the center field fence.
Right fielder Jed Hanson and Brown hit back-to-back singles to start another potential rally in the fourth.
Designated hitter Brandon Rogers sacrificed the runners to second and third.
