Several parents from Forest Lake and Wyoming were recognized with the 2017 Minnesota Parents’ Day Award at a ceremony at the Minnesota Capitol on July 18. St. Croix Cleaners to ‘Pause 4 Paws’

St Croix Cleaners, a locally owned dry cleaner, will be donating and matching 20 percent of its proceeds from Aug. 1 to Aug. 15 to pet rescues organization Pause 4 Paws. Fairview Health Services offers free local sports physicals

This summer, Fairview Sports and Orthopedic Care and Fairview Clinics are offering free local sports physicals to student athletes to make sure they can safely participate in physical activity. The Minnesota State High School League requires a qualifying or pre-participation exam for each student prior to playing a high school sport. Student athletes must complete a PPE once every three years of participation, according to MSHSL guidelines.
Sports physicals screen for life-threatening conditions or conditions that may cause student athletes to experience injury or illness down the road. The exam involves an extensive health questionnaire, a vision test and basic health information such as blood pressure, height, and weight. All of Fairview’s sports physicals are designed to meet Minnesota State High School League qualifications.broadstreet.zone(48036);

River Valley Riders seek volunteers

The River Valley Riders are looking for volunteers to work with instructors providing assistance during therapeutic horseback riding lessons. Evening volunteer opportunities are available from May through October in either Afton or Scandia.
New volunteer training will be offered at 2007 Neal Ave. South, Afton, on Aug. 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. Interested parties are asked to call 651-439-2558 or go to www.rivervalleyriders.org to RSVP.broadstreet.zone(48036);
Trained to become side walkers and leaders, each member of the volunteer team has a specific responsibility. Experience with horses or people with disabilities are not required.
