Brewers to meet St. Croix in old-time game

The Forest Lake Brewers will travel back to 1860 to face the St. Croix Base Ball Club at Schumacher Field at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 1.
The St. Croixs are operated by the Washington County Historical Society and have suited up for vintage baseball exhibitions since 1998. The Brewers have played town ball in Forest Lake since 1987.broadstreet.zone(48036);
Some differences between 1860 baseball and the modern game: Fielders do not wear gloves, a batter is out if the fielder snags the ball after one bounce, foul balls do not count as strikes, and runners must stop dead at first or risk being tagged out.
The old-time game is played in coordination with Forest Lake’s Independence Day celebrations. The American Legion is organizing the city’s celebrations for the 93rd year.
Admission to the game is $5 for adults. Children 16 and under will be admitted free.

“I work with a group called Business Connect and they deal with certifications and regulations regarding state and federally funded programs,” Bulmer said. “They opened the door and said that if a business were to do certain things, then there was a chance to be involved with the Super Bowl.”broadstreet.zone(48036);
