Students gain freedom with Ranger Hour

In an attempt to provide students with flexible time to tend to their academic needs and also enjoy some unscheduled time in the middle of the day, Forest Lake Area High School administrators conducted a trial run of what is being called Ranger Hour.
Ranger Hour is a one-hour period in the middle of the day that allows students to eat lunch and spend time engaging in a variety of different academic and extracurricular activities.broadstreet.zone(48036);
“This is 60 minutes in the middle of the day that will allow students to study, connect, enjoy lunch, and recharge,” high school Assistant Principal Justin Sawyer said. “This is similar to a college schedule where not every minute of every day is planned for you.”

Sowing the seeds; Student field trip provides for native plantings

FLAHS landscaping students plant plants they grew from seeds during a field trip to the Forest Lake/Comfort Lake Watershed District office.
On May 25, the Comfort Lake-Forest Lake Watershed District collaborated with Prairie Restorations to host a field trip for Mike Miron’s Forest Lake Area High School landscaping class to the watershed district office.
“The CLFLWD purchased a variety of native plant seeds from Prairie Restorations in February,” watershed program assistant Mike Sorensen said. “Students from Forest Lake High School and the Forest Lake Area Learning Center grew the seeds in the schools’ greenhouses over the late-winter and early-spring.”broadstreet.zone(48036);
The May 25 excursion coincided with the plants having grown to plug size. Students from FLAHS used the plants to improve existing native planting projects at the district office and at the city of Forest Lake-owned dead end street by Gator Signs at 2nd Ave. NE.
