Lack of trust, respect led to state constitutional crisis

Regardless of our differing political views, all Minnesotans should be unhappy with the final result of this year’s session of the Minnesota Legislature.
For a time, we thought a “C” grade would be appropriate. That would be a “C” for “Compromise,” because both DFL Gov. Mark Dayton and the Republican-controlled Legislature had to give ground on numerous issues to get a deal done.broadstreet.zone(48036);
Then, in the final hours, the GOP inserted language in a budget bill that would have defunded the state Department of Revenue if the governor did not sign the tax relief bill passed by the Legislature.
The governor eventually signed the tax bill after first saying he would allow it to become law without his signature, but then he cast a line-item veto of all funding for the Legislature in the next two years, creating an instant constitutional crisis. Seven new inductees named to hall of fame

Seven new members will be inducted this spring into the Forest Lake Area High School Arts and Athletics Hall of Fame.broadstreet.zone(48036);
Former hockey standouts Aaron Forsythe and Bryan Peltier will be inducted, along with former gymnastics coach Dave Blasko, former dance team coach Robin Erickson-Lind, retired high school speech and drama coach Jane Gillis, Broadway and television star Christopher Sieber, and Ranger track star Heather Westmoreland.
All seven will be inducted at a formal event on June 5 held in conjunction with the Forest Lake Area High School Academic Awards Night. That event will be held in the auditorium of Forest Lake Area High School at 7 p.m. On June 6, all new hall of fame inductees – along with friends, family and anyone from the public interested in attending – are invited to a reception held in their honor at Forest Hills Golf Club.
