Against the backdrop of the Schumacher Field grandstand, players from the Forest Lake and Wayzata baseball teams as well as community members release white balloons ahead of the Rangers’ annual fundraiser for the Stomp Out Suicide Foundation in memory of Kyle Raarup. Funds were raised through sales of T-shirts and water bottles, as well as through fan donations. The Rangers won the game 4-2.

Wyoming police officer Matt Paavola was recently awarded for his courage during a SWAT team operation.

The Wyoming Police Department recently won the Innovation Award at the Chief of Police Association Gathering. Chief Paul Hoppe told the City Council about the award at the May 2 City Council meeting.broadstreet.zone(48036);
“We had two awards presented at last week’s conference,” he explained. “The first award was a department-wide award — Excellence in Innovation.”
Hoppe said the award is in recognition of innovative policing methods and is given to both a large and small municipal department. There are four criteria the award looks at: the level of innovation, effectiveness, ability to replicate and overall impact.
Hoppe then presented a video featuring him and officer Scott Thomas. Thomas talked about the department’s social media campaign, specifically through Twitter. Through this campaign the department works to share public safety information with a touch of humor. Some of

This Memorial Day, North Lakes Academy Charter School student Evan DuFresne will be researching the life of Private William J. Bremer, an American service member who is memorialized at the Normandy American Cemetery. DuFresne and his teacher Christopher Stewart are charged with telling the untold story of Private Bremer as part of the Normandy: Sacrifice for Freedom Albert H. Small Student and Teacher Institute.
This institute takes 15 student and teacher teams on a journey through history. Each team selects one silent hero who died during or after the D-Day landings and spends months researching the story of this brave American through readings, historical research, and primary sources such as war records, draft cards, and family interviews.broadstreet.zone(48036);

The Huskies beat the Charter Stars to win the Twin Cities Athletic Conference championship.
The North Lakes Academy softball team completed a flawless run through the first-ever Twin Cities Athletic Conference softball season by defeating the Charter Stars 11-1 in the league championship game at the Columbus City Fields on May 12.
“Winning the conference is a huge deal for our team, but I’ve really focused on the fact that seasons aren’t defined by medals and trophies; it’s about the intensity you bring to every game,” head coach Christopher Stewart said. “Athletes sometimes play down to their opponents, but I’m always harping, don’t take our foot off the gas.”broadstreet.zone(48036);

The Ranger girls golf team has been dominating the Suburban East Conference, as expected.
The Forest Lake girls golf team, led by the senior trio of Hannah Kohls, Maija Tanberg and Maddy Messin, has been rolling through the Suburban East Conference season. Through three conference matches, the Rangers had scored the maximum of 27 possible points in the team standings, enough to place them three points ahead of Woodbury.
In the SEC match at Woodbury on April 20, Messin had the top score in the field (38). Tanberg (40), Kohls (42), sophomores Emma Schaffer and Brooke Odland (both 48) and senior Anna Schmidke rounded out the Ranger card.
