Multiple lake issues discussed in Scandia

Terry Traver
Scandia Reporter
Last December, a petition was received by the Washington County commissioners Board proposing a change in the name of Half-Breed Lake, which is located in Forest Lake and Scandia.broadstreet.zone(48036);
The petition proposed that the name be changed to Sylvan Lake, which is actually what the lake has been commonly referred to by many of the lake’s residents for some time. The petition was signed by 17 residents living around the lake.
There were two public hearings held by the board of commissioners, and at the second hearing it was decided that more feedback was needed from residents around the lake.
More petitions have since been filed suggesting the name be changed to Lake Keewahtin.
The County Board will hold another meeting on May 9.
At the April 18 Scandia City Council meeting, the council voted unanimously to support a name change.broadstreet.zone(50962);
