Lake Association annual meeting
The Forest Lake Lake Association will host its annual meeting April 20 from 6:15 to 8 p.m. at Stella’s on 97.
Leukemia benefit
The Forest Lake VFW will host a Jammin’ for Jace benefit April 22 from three to 10 p.m. featuring kids games, face painting, a silent and live auction, a DJ, and a bake sale. There will also be a spaghetti dinner with a cost of $10 for adults and $7 for kids.
Turf management education session
A class titled “Turf Care Truths and Tips, Management for a Healthy Watershed” will be offered free at the Comfort Lake Forest Lake Watershed District office, 44 Lake St S., April 25 and 26 and May 8 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with a half hour of questions and answers to follow. The event is hosted by Master Watershed Steward Jack Mackenzie.

Ruggles found many ways to serve his hometown

G. Howard Ruggles was a community pillar in Forest Lake, the owner of two long-running businesses and a former Forest Lake City Council member.broadstreet.zone(48036);
During parts of five decades, G. Howard Ruggles was a fixture in the Forest Lake business community. He spent the better part of four decades running a sporting goods store and a hardware store while becoming deeply involved in community affairs.
It may not have been that way had Ruggles elected to put his college education to work and not return to the only place he ever called home.
Ruggles, who died on Sunday, April 9, at age 84, was far more than a business owner. A native of Forest Lake, Ruggles lived most of his life here, short of four years at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter and four years in the military, including two years of his service and two years in California as a
