Fire destroys Scandia home

At approximately 2:50 p.m. April 6, a page went out from Scandia requesting mutual aid from Marine regarding a garage on fire with a significant amount of smoke visible. The house, at 13305 188th St. N., was the residence of Mike and Julie White.
According to Scandia Fire Chief Mike Hinz, the cause of the blaze is still being investigated.broadstreet.zone(48036);
“The fire completely destroyed the second floor, attached garage and also a good portion of the first floor of the home,” Hinz said. “There was also severe smoke and water damage throughout. There isn’t much left and they are definitely going to have to rebuild if they choose to stay at the same address.”

Hosanna to host Feed My Starving Children MobilePack

With a plan to make a difference in the world and bring the community together for a purpose, more than 1,200 volunteers will descend upon Hosanna Lutheran Church in Forest Lake April 20-22 in an effort to pack 250,000 meals to be shipped overseas to children in need.
“We are contracted at 250,000 meals at a cost of 22 cents per meal,” Linda Friesen, church pastor, said. “If we exceed the goal, which we did last year by packing 171,000 meals when we were contracted for 150,000, we will be asked to pay for each extra meal. Fundraising has been difficult this year, as we have to make up $22,000 from last year and we have very few new partners. Historical internships available

The Washington County Historical Society is offering internships for post-secondary education.
The internship program is designed to introduce students to the workings of a regional history museum and the interpretive educational process. The internship provides a rare opportunity to directly apply academic skills and training in a unique working environment, as well as provide exposure to a career as a history museum professional.broadstreet.zone(48036);
The intern should have good English skills, communication skills, be reliable and able to work both as a team member and independently.
