After Log House article, Scandia considers communications

What began as a typical council meeting on March 21 evolved into a contentious discussion about an article regarding the Log House Landing project submitted by Mayor Christine Maefsky and Councilman Steve Kronmiller for the spring Scandia newsletter.broadstreet.zone(48036);
Councilman Jim Schneider was irritated that the article was not approved by the full council before being sent to city staff to be placed into the newsletter because he felt that the content was biased; ultimately, the article was not placed in the newsletter.
“It’s a perfect example of someone trying to verse their personal views in the newsletter, which I am dead set against,” Schneider said. “The facts are again being skewed. It was voted on and it’s a done deal.” City
Schneider was referring to the agreement previously voted on and approved by the council to remodel the Log House Landing boat ramp with financial assistance from the Carnelian-Marine-St. Croix Watershed

Editorial: Obstructing legislator pay raise subverts will of voters

Minnesotans who voted in November to empower an independent commission to set state legislators’ salaries may have been surprised to learn that the raw politics they’d hoped to transcend never went away.
Last month, when the newly appointed Legislative Salary Council approved a 45 percent salary increase for the state’s 201 legislators, the leader of the Minnesota House pounced.broadstreet.zone(48036);
In a March 16 letter, Speaker Kurt Daudt, R-Crown, instructed the House controller not to fund the pay increases, scheduled by law to take effect July 1.
Depending on his appetite for brinkmanship over the issue, Daudt risks plunging Minnesota into a state constitutional crisis. He has already, in our opinion, subverted the will of the voters.

Taris Z. Danchenko

Taris Z. Danchenko of Wyoming (Coon Lake Beach), Minnesota passed away at his residence on March 29, 2017 at the age of 91. Taris was born on March 11, 1926 in Amery, Wisconsin to parents Taris and Ruby Danchenko. He is preceded in death by his wife Joyce; parents and sisters Erlene and Anna May. Taris is survived by his daughter Marjorie (Morris) Ward of Coon Lake; grandchildren Naomi (Glenn Austin) Ward, Wesley (Jamie) Ward; great-grandchildren Norah and Elliot Austin; and Colton and Keira Ward. Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2017 at the Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, Minnesota with visitation one hour prior to the service.
