Editorial: A plea for transparency and open records

Technology has changed just about every aspect of modern-day life.
Social media connects us instantly to hundreds or thousands of people. Many individuals sift through hundreds of email messages each workday. Most of us carry high quality cameras in our pocket or purse wherever we go. We can shoot HD video with the push of a button.broadstreet.zone(48036);
These tremendous changes in technology have also had a profound effect on our governmental bodies and officials — perhaps most notably upon our law enforcement agencies.
Many police officers wear body cameras that can record everything he or she sees in the course of the day. Most police cars are equipped with some type of dashboard camera that can record a traffic stop or any other situation.
These videos can prove guilt or innocence, often help police track down a perpetrator and also prove to the public that the police officer acted appropriately in a very volatile

Cindy Moore (nee: Schlaeger)

Cindy Moore, age 59 of Forest Lake, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 11, 2017.
Cindy was passionate about flowers (orchids) and gardening, birds and animals, music, dancing and decorating, but above all she lived for her family.
Preceded in death by parents, Fran Sr. and Thelma; step-father, Ray Rasmussen; and infant sister, Mary.
Survived by husband of 35 years, William; daughters, Jenny (Steve) Oneal, Heather (Mike) Dummer; grandchildren, Gabe Oneal, Elizabeth and Eric Dummer; siblings, Fran Jr. (Sue) Schlaeger, Bob Schlaeger, Joe (Jacque) Schlaeger, Jim (Chris) Schlaeger, Dave (Cindy) Schlaeger, Tom Schlaeger; many in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Cindy’s Life 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 15th at Roberts Family Life Celebration Home, 555 SW Centennial Drive, Forest Lake, with visitation beginning at 12 Noon until time of service. Interment, Calvary Cemetery.

Janet “Jan” McDonough

Janet “Jan” McDonough, age 69, of Wyoming, MN, passed away, March 7, 2017 after a courageous journey with breast cancer.
Jan was born on May 13, 1947 in Prairie Farm, WI to Peter and Myrtle (Mickelson) Olson. She attended elementary school in Connorsville WI., and graduated in 1965 from Boyceville High School, Boyceville, WI. She received a two year degree in occupational therapy assistance from Anoka Technical College in 1994. Jan married Ed McDonough in 1967 and they had three children. They lived in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and have been residents of Linwood Township for the past 46 years. They have spent their winters in Florida for the last 10 years.
Jan enjoyed canning, gardening, walking, riding her bike, softball and boating in Hayward. She was a volunteer at Fairview Hospital in Wyoming for several years. She also volunteered her time as a sidewalk counselor for Pro-Life Action Ministries and was a
