County Board denies Muslim cemetery proposal

There were back-and-forth discussions between commissioners and even a member of the public forcing down tears Dec. 21 just prior to the Chisago County Board voting 3-2 to deny a conditional use permit application that would have allowed an Islamic cemetery to be constructed in south Chisago Lake Township.
Commissioners George McMahon, Lora Walker and Rick Greene voted against the proposal, with commissioners Mike Robinson and Ben Montzka voting in favor.broadstreet.zone(48036);
Enes Gluhic, speaking after the meeting for the Islamic Community of Bosniaks in Minnesota, the group looking to have a 2-acre cemetery on a 16-acre plot of land near Lofton Avenue and 261st Street, said he was disheartened by the decision, but not surprised.

Linda L. Goodroad

Linda Louise Goodroad, age 51, was born in Minneapolis, MN on April 23, 1965 to Lee and Dana Jackson of Fridley. She passed on to our Savior on January 27, 2017 after bravely fighting breast cancer for 16 years.
In the summer of 1974 the Jackson family moved to Forest Lake, where Linda and her brother and sister grew up on the lake. Linda loved the lake and playing on the water.
Linda graduated from Forest Lake High School in 1983 then attended the University of MN graduating with two degrees. While in college she skied for the U of MN Water Ski Team and continued her love of skiing with the Bald Eagle Water Ski Show until she was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, at the age of 35.
