Gun fired in police chase
A law enforcement officer was dragged by a vehicle and another officer fired his gun during an early morning incident on Dec. 22 in the 10 block of Lee Street in Forest Lake.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, police officers from Forest Lake and Wyoming and sheriff’s deputies from Washington and Chisago counties were in the area of the incident following up on possible leads for arrest warrants. Around 2 a.m., officers attempted to arrest the driver of a minivan, but the driver allegedly fled the scene, briefly dragging an officer who had reached inside the van. The sheriff’s office reported that an officer fired his weapon while the other officer was being dragged; the vehicle was hit by gunfire, but no person was struck.broadstreet.zone(48036);
Eventually, the vehicle stopped near one of the intersections of U.S. Highway 61 and State Highway 97. The driver was arrested without further incident, but

Rangers swim to 4th place at Minnetonka
Ben Chatwin placed seventh in the 100 butterfly.
Racing in its first major competition of the season, the Ranger swim team placed fourth of seven at the Minnetonka Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 17, with 261 points.
The hosts won big with 818, followed by Eden Prairie (616) and Eagan (332). The Rangers bested North St. Paul (162), Buffalo/Maple Lake (104) and Grand Rapids (40).broadstreet.zone(48036);
The Rangers couldn’t quite nab an event victory, but they had a few close calls. The highest placer from Forest Lake was senior Wyatt Thompson, whose time of 5:03.54 in the 500 freestyle was good enough for second place.
Earning bronze medals for the Rangers were junior Ben Chatwin in the 50 free (21.68) and the 200 free relay team of senior Duncan Johnson, senior Journey Roberge, Thompson and Chatwin (1:29.85).
The 400 free relay team (Duncan, sophomore Liam Hunter, Thompson and Chatwin) placed fourth in 3:19.63.

Parrish, Cardinal place at prestigious Christmas Tournament
Grant Parrish gains an advantage over his opponent from Maple Grove. After Rochester, Parrish held a season record of 15-3.
The Ranger wrestling squad placed 21st at the massive Rochester Christmas Tournament over the weekend, its highest placement in seven years, which included a defeat of local rival Centennial. Sophomore Grant Parrish (170) and eighth-grader Derrick Cardinal (106) advanced to the medal rounds – Parrish placed third and Cardinal seventh.
Up to 32 wrestlers were entered in each weight class, with many of Minnesota’s top grapplers joined by wrestlers from Wisconsin, Illinois, North Dakota and Arizona. Parrish, who entered the tournament with a record of 10 wins and two losses, opened his run by edging Alex Longelin (Waconia) on a 3-2 decision. He then dropped Cyrus Scott (Rochester Mayo) in 1:17 and beat Zach Chytka (Shakopee) 10-4 to advance to the semifinals.broadstreet.zone(48036);

Rangers shoot down Raptors
The Ranger girls hockey team scored two early goals against East Ridge on Dec. 13 to raise the curtain on an eventual 4-2 victory. Junior forward Kayla Kasel scored the Rangers’ first and last goals; senior forward Maddie Kolbow and freshman defenseman Ellen Nelson netted in the interim. Gymnasts knock off Woodbury
Sophomore Izzy North performs on floor at Woodbury on Dec. 15. The Rangers beat the Royals 133.175 to 128.125. Sophomore Sofia Dodge won the vault (8.9), a result that helped push her to the all-around title (34.025) as well. Sophomore Julie Godar outperformed the field on the bars, winning with an 8.4. The Rangers hosted Cretin-Derham Hall on Dec. 20 after press time and will return from the Christmas break by hosting Mounds View on Jan. 5.

Winter plays havoc with sports schedules
Ranger, Husky teams see games postponed
The winter storm that blew through Minnesota over the weekend caused the postponement of the following games:broadstreet.zone(48036);
–Forest Lake boys basketball was set to host Duluth East on Dec. 16, a game that had been designated as Alumni Night in conjunction with the alumni tournament the next day. Alumni Night will instead be celebrated on Dec. 22, when the Rangers host St. Francis. The Duluth East game is rescheduled for Jan. 31.
–The Ranger Nordic skiing team missed out on a meet at Lake Elmo Park Preserve on Dec. 16. They instead opened their season at Elm Creek on Dec. 20.
–The North Lakes Academy boys and girls basketball teams were to play a doubleheader against Chesterton Academy on Dec. 16. The Toys for Tots drive that was matched with these games was held during a doubleheader on Dec. 20 instead.
–The Ranger girls hockey team missed two road
