Airport lease draws ire

The Daniel DePonti Airport runway is paved, but some members of the Forest Lake Airport Commission, as well other lessees of hangar space, are at odds over a new lease that’s been under discussion for months – including a provision for paying for the commission’s share of the runway cost.
The previous version of the airport hangar lease was approved in 2008, and a new version was written this year. According to City Administrator Aaron Parrish, the city felt that the 2008 lease needed to have some language modified to keep it current and to address a few flaws in its makeup, like a provision that made it difficult to raise rents in accordance with market factors. The when and why of pardons

Will he or won’t he? That is a question a lot of political commentators are asking about whether or not President Obama will pardon Hillary Clinton. Whatever the answer to that question is, other questions are equally interesting (and far less political). Specifically, what are pardons, and why are presidents allowed to issue them at all?broadstreet.zone(48036);
The U.S. Constitution provides that the president “shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment.” There is a lot packed into those 19 words.
First, reprieves and pardons are different. Reprieves apply when someone has been convicted and sentenced for a criminal offense. A reprieve reduces or suspends any further punishment. For example, if someone had served three years of a 10-year federal criminal sentence, a presidential reprieve could reduce the sentence or suspend it altogether. Memories of Austria

Marine on St. Croix artist Tom Maakestad spoke at a recent Scandia-Marine Lions meeting about his month in Austria this past July. Maakestad was a visiting artist in residence staying in Salzburg. During the month there, he completed 50 paintings. Maakestad has a gallery in Minneapolis in addition to his studio in Marine on St. Croix, where he has lived for 20 years.

Fare For All to sell holiday packs Dec. 20; Program makes a holiday dinner more affordable for all community members

 
Fare For All, a local non-profit food program created to make fresh fruits and vegetables more affordable to Twin Cities families, will be selling holiday packs for $30 at the Forest Lake VFW on Dec. 21 from 4 to 6 p.m.broadstreet.zone(48036);
Each holiday pack includes an 8-pound spiral cut ham, a whole chicken, chicken strips, two packages of ground beef, two bags of mixed vegetables and an apple pie.
There is no need to register in advance.
Fare For All sells packages of fresh produce and frozen meat at 37 locations throughout Minnesota. With prices ranging from $10 to $30 per package, Fare For All offers savings that are much less than retail prices.
The program has no income requirements and is open to everyone who is looking to save money. There are no forms to complete, and cash, credit, debit and EBT cards are all accepted.
