Rotary honors LILA student achievement

Alternative clubs put extracurricular focus on learning

Offer students an opportunity to work on math problems or fine-tune some creative thinking skills outside of the traditional classroom hours, and some cringe. There are a select few, however, who welcome the opportunity for additional learning and actually find it quite fun. Those students are members of some nontraditional clubs offered at Forest Lake Elementary.broadstreet.zone(48036);
Math Masters is coached by Dave Sauer and features three teams of five accelerated math students.
“With so much other stuff going on outside of school, it can be difficult to get kids to find the time and interest for this kind of group,” he said. “However, we work with our Math Masters kids to accommodate their schedules as best as possible because they really are dedicated to the team and have taken a serious interest in math.”
The skills required to compete in Math Masters are at least two grade levels above where the average fifth-grade

Linda Kehoe (Hibbard)

Linda Kehoe (Hibbard), age 67 of Dresser, Wisconsin, danced her way into Heaven on December 10, 2016.
Preceded in death by father, Richard Hibbard; mother, Betty Peper; brother, Mark Hibbard; son-in-law, Keith Bazille; grandparents, Clarence and Edith Johnson.
She is survived by her daughters, Kelly Bazille, Kara (Ros) Stack, Katina (Ray) Arellano; grandchildren, Marcus (Becky), Brandon, William (Robby), Kody, Sierra, Kalley, Jayden, Travin; great grandchildren, Landyn, Kylie; brothers, Gary (Mary), Dale (Gina), Richard, Lon (Kimberly) Peper; sisters, Sandy (Matt) Mondor, Amy Hibbard; many nieces, nephews and loved ones.
Funeral service 6 p.m., Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. Visitation 4 p.m. until time of service. Memorials are preferred to the family.

Patrick “Plotch” M. Steele

Attn: Local Union 110Patrick Steele, age 67 of Harris, loving Dad and Grandpa, went home on December 7, 2016.
Patrick was a proud graduate of Monroe High School (’67), Navy Vet and retired IBEW 110 journeyman. Pat spent his life hunting, fishing, and making people laugh. He was a late night philosopher, lover of music and propagator of shenanigans. He loved his kids and his grandkids more than anything on Earth and loved watching them play and grow. He reveled in time with his big family- finding joy in teasing his nieces and nephews and laughing the night away with his brothers, sisters and friends. He taught all who knew him kindness, empathy, forgiveness and most of all unconditional love.

Gregory A. Bergeron

Greg Bergeron, formerly of Forest Lake, died suddenly on Dec. 6, 2016.
Greg was born Nov. 20, 1955 and is preceded in death by his parents William and Darlene and his brother Scott.
Greg will be deeply missed by his wife and riding partner Deb; his two step-children Deona Alexander and Garrett (Tarah) Knajdek; by Pamela his wife of 30 years; his children, Allen (Shawna), Brad (Heidi), Katie (Mike) James, Rebekah, Sam, Isaac, Joseph, and Lydia; as well as his 12 grandchildren and his siblings, Dave, Roxanne Muehlberg, Deb (David) Wicklund, Steve (Lori), Vicki (Mark) Rosdahl, Terry (Patti), Melissa (Fred) Barg.
