Girls swim and dive places 8th at section championship meet

UPDATE: Valerie Patterson placed 20th at the MSHSL Group 2A state diving championship. Taylor Ritchot placed 32nd.
The Ranger swim team finished eighth at the Section 7AA championship meet in Coon Rapids last week with a total score of 148.5 points.broadstreet.zone(48036);
“The girls did really well,” head coach Kimberly Jones said. “Looking at the preliminary results, 27 out of 32 individuals dropped time. We pulled everything together and had an incredible meet.”
Swimming prelims were held Thursday evening. The top eight placers in each event advanced to the championship final, while the next eight moved on to a consolation final. Two Rangers qualified for championship finals. Junior Kenzie Klein advanced in the 50 freestyle (fourth, 25.14) and 100 backstroke (sixth, 1:02.54), while freshman Ella Anderson made the 500 freestyle final (eighth, 5:40.55). 5 Rangers sign NCAA letters of intent

Five Ranger seniors signed letters of intent to Division I or Division II programs at a signing ceremony on Nov. 9:
Abby Buesseler, rifle, Ole Miss (Oxford, Mississippi). The Rebels finished fifth of nine in the Great American Rifle Conference last year and sent one shooter to the NCAA Championships.broadstreet.zone(48036);
Dana Buesseler, rifle, Murray State (Murray, Kentucky). The Racers won the smallbore and air rifle sections at the Ohio Valley Conference championships a year ago. They went on to defeat Nebraska in an NCAA qualifying match, and finished third at the NCAA national championships.
Cam Kline, baseball, Minnesota State Mankato. The Bulls finished their 2016 season with a 36-18 record. They won two games at the NCAA Central Region tournament before being eliminated.
Maddy Messin, golf, Minnesota State Manakto. The Bulls finished third of 12 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference last season, then finished ninth of 32 at the Central Region championships.

Junior volleyball teams place in fall tournament

After the Forest Lake Area School Board voted to drop a number of junior high sports in February, the Forest Lake Area Athletic Association and Lakes Volleyball Club began working together to organize the Junior Ranger Volleyball program. Girls in the seventh and eighth grades this fall were able to play volleyball without skipping a beat, and the season was a huge success. The eighth-graders finished first in the Kokoro fall league tournament, while the seventh-graders finished second.broadstreet.zone(48036);
Benner qualifies for NCAA Championship
Forest Lake graduate Emma Benner, now a freshman at Purdue, qualified for the NCAA Division I cross-country championship by finishing seventh at the Great Lakes regional meet in Madison on Saturday. One dead in I-35 accident (updated)

A woman died in a early morning accident today on Interstate Highway 35 in Forest Lake.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the woman, who has not yet been identified, fell off the back of a motorcycle for an unknown reason around 4:45 a.m. on I-35 near milepost 131 and the intersection with State Highway 97 (an earlier report on the State Patrol’s website stating that a passenger car was involved was incorrect). She appears to have been killed resulting from the fall. The driver of the motorcycle, Myles Eckman, 23, of St. Paul, was uninjured and allegedly fled the scene. He was apprehended and arrested later.broadstreet.zone(48036);
