Freshmen legislators join GOP majority
After defeating incumbents during their primaries, two new local Republican lawmakers were tapped by voters on Election Day to join the state Legislature: incoming District 31B Rep. Cal Bahr and the soon-to-be District 32 Sen. Mark Koran.
The men toppled DFL challengers Susan Larson and Tim Nelson, respectively, and will become part of a legislature in which both bodies, not just the House of Representatives, will be controlled by Republicans.broadstreet.zone(48036);

They also discovered that newcomer Jeff Peterson would soon occupy the seat left vacant when Dan Kieger, 2015-16 school board vice president, decided not to run again.
Peterson and the three returning members all spoke humbly about being honored to have earned the voters’ trust. Five-year board veteran Gail Theisen was the top vote-getter with 10,538.broadstreet.zone(48036);
“I am overwhelmed by so much support and the large number of votes,” she said. “Moving forward I look to continue to build on our successes and I want to continue to listen to parents and other district stakeholders. I am also excited to see the completion of our construction project and what that will do to improve the academics for all our students.”
