Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon and educators in 280 Minnesota high schools did a wise thing this fall: They asked students, grades nine through 12, who they supported for president of the United States. broadstreet.zone(48036);
As of Nov. 1, when initial results were released, about 77,000 students from Minnesota rural, suburban and urban, public and private schools had voted. Some of the results were not what I would have expected. Results are available for each individual high school at http://bit.ly/2fe0cI9.
As you consider Minnesota and national results on Election Day, you might want to compare how students voted, especially in your local community.
The first surprise, at least for me, was that almost a third of the high school students who voted preferred someone other than Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump: 35 percent of students voted for Trump and 33 percent voted for Clinton, so 32 percent had another preference.

Once again, Linwood Town Hall was unusually full Oct. 25 for the biweekly town board meeting. Many residents returned hoping to hear more description about the business plan of Wendy Stewart, Gena Evans and Luke Weller for a residential treatment center at 5810 Cranberry Drive in Linwood Township.

Alex Drew Schiefelbein, age 21 of Forest Lake, earned his angel wings on November 10, 2016, after a courageous 9 year battle with a brain tumor.
Preceded in death by grandfather, LaVerne Schiefelbein. Jacob “Coby” Herzog, age 14, of Columbus, passed away.
Coby was a fun kid, and shared many precious moments with us while he was here. He found it hard to understand and express himself, and despite guiding him as best we could, Coby chose to enter eternal life on Nov. 10, 2016, reuniting with his grandpa, Ed Hall. He will forever be missed by his parents, Michael and Barbara; brothers, Ethan and Andrew; grandparents, Nancy Hall, Harvey and Jane Herzog; aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Candace “Candy” Erickson, age 71, of Forest Lake, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, November 12, 2016.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Myrtle Edwards; daughter, Beth; brother, Bob Edwards; and grandson, Jasper.
She is survived by husband of 51 years, Arthur; sons, Tim (Cindy), Todd (Cheryl), Brad (Jenni); sisters, Bonnie (Al) Tarverse, Cheryl Leske; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
