Scandia OKs event center permits
Terry Traver
Scandia Reporterbroadstreet.zone(48036);
Conversation got a little more controversial than usual during the Oct. 18 Scandia City Council meeting when the council debated the question of approving a conditional use permit and annual operating permit for the Gacek Rural Event Facility, at 12680 Scandia Trail N.
The issuance of the permits, applied for by owners Jeff and Julie Gacek in August, had been debated previously by the Scandia City Planning Commission at its Oct. 4 meeting. The Gaceks’ plan had been approved unanimously by the commission and sent to the council for consideration. The resolution included several requirements to be met by the Gaceks for their operating and conditional use permits, including a limit of 150 people at events, only 75 events per year, no outdoor sound amplification for parties before or after ceremonies, and more.
Council Member Robert Hegland was concerned about how the Gacek application was handled by the Planning Commission

Big plays were the order of the evening for the Skippers, who scored fourth of their first-half touchdowns on plays of 40 yards or more. Gus Steiger opened the scoring with a 72-yard scoring run. On the following drive, Ranger quarterback Tristan Cordie scrambled for 32 yards to the Tonka 29-yard line, but he lost hold of the ball and the Skippers recovered. The Rangers fumbled six times in the game, with Tonka falling on four of them.
“I thought our scheme was good, and we moved the ball up and down the field,” head coach Jeff Wilson said. “But if you fumble the ball six times, it isn’t

The Rangers were largely dominant in the Denfeld game, winning in straight sets 25-14, 25-20, 25-12. Even in the close second set, the Rangers eased to a 19-10 advantage before the Hunters fought back.
“We really showed up to play tonight,” head coach Sherri Alm said. “We pushed the tempo, played faster and kept (Denfeld) off-kilter.”
A pair of sophomores topped the score sheet, Abigail Groeneweg (14 kills) and Angela Denney (11). Senior Tia Moscatelli had five.
The ball often fell advantageously for the Rangers on the night, most notably when a Groeneweg spike came down
