Linwood unhappy? Why?broadstreet.zone(48036);
As a Linwood resident over 16 years, I’m appalled to hear we have residents unhappy about the placement of another group home in Linwood township. What is the issue? Are we so insensitive to the needs of the disabled or the addict?
To those who rendered their dissatisfaction to the Town Board, there should be a sense of shame. I echo the same to the board. This could
A special Halloween
Wyoming residents Chad Morley (left) and Cassandra Morley (right) made Halloween special for their 9-year-old son, Payton, when Chad built an elaborate “Polar Express” engine, complete with battery-operated light and smokestack, to fit around Payton’s wheelchair for the annual Wyoming Elementary School parade. Payton has Hunter’s syndrome, a rare, terminal genetic disorder that affects movement and brain development, and Chad, who works on airplanes at St. Cloud Aviation, views his annual work on a wheelchair-based costume based on one of his son’s favorite movies as a way for Payton’s fellow students to see him in a different light. “The kids at school … kind of have the chance to see that he’s a cool guy,” he said. Chad said the elementary school has been supportive of Payton, who visited his school on Oct. 31 before returning to the hospital. Several of Payton’s classmates have made him cards, which are displayed
Man gets 20 years for prostitution conviction
A St. Paul man charged with acting as a pimp for a 17-year-old Forest Lake girl was sentenced Oct. 28 to 20 years in prison after he was convicted of promoting the prostitution of an individual.
Damon Michael DiMartino, 41, was first charged in connection with the case in November 2015, when a police investigation of a domestic dispute led to the discovery that a Forest Lake resident, then 17, was supporting herself via prostitution after being kicked out of her home.broadstreet.zone(48036);
Shortly after leaving her home at age 16, according to the criminal complaint, the girl met DiMartino at a party and asked him for a loan. DiMartino told her she needed to work for it instead, which led to her stripping on party buses and ultimately performing sex acts for money. Court records state that the girl told police that DiMartino gave the girl drugs and alcohol to calm her
ECM Editorial: Don’t you dare not vote!
What’s the worst statement to come out of any adult American’s mouth this week?
“I’m not voting!”broadstreet.zone(48036);
While all indications are that we’ll have a huge voter turnout this year, we’ve heard that some of you, especially those who feel disdain for the candidates at the top of the presidential ballot, are staying home.
If that’s you, we urge you to reconsider.
First, if you feel not voting will be read as some kind of protest statement on the presidential race, don’t expect your inaction to have an impact. Not voting can mean many things – you’re apathetic, you don’t understand the issues or many other reasons.
If you are not a Clinton or Trump supporter, you have several options. There are seven third party candidates on this year’s ballot in Minnesota. You can write in a presidential candidate.
But secondly and most important, not voting means you are giving up your opportunity to express your
