Meadows on Fairview hosted their quarterly pancake breakfast fundraiser on Oct. 14. This month’s recipient was Forest Lake American Legion 40/8 Scholarship in nursing. The breakfast raised $220. The most important issue to me in the Forest Lake School District to address would be to limit the amount of standardized tests that the kids have to take. Having the kids testing the third week of the school year just after they had tested the previous spring, in my opinion, doesn’t provide any real information that couldn’t be obtained from the spring test. Having multiple tests per year limits how and what knowledge the teachers can provide to students. The teachers are also limited to the methods in which they teach the knowledge, because using methods that correlate to the testing format is currently the most beneficial to the students. Robert G. Larson Sr.

Age 85. Passed away peacefully on October 25, 2016 surrounded by his family. Survived by loving wife, Deloris; cherished children, Judy (Steve) Anderson-Smith, Debbie (Tom) Teisberg, Bob (Debbie), Bill (Perri), Jim (Sue); 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; brother Gary Larson; and brother-in-law, Bob Haroldson. Johnson High School Graduate, class of ’50. Brick and Stone contactor, loved hockey, baseball, football, hunting, fishing and golf at FLGC. He was loved so much and will be greatly missed.
