Amy Doeun
Linwood Reporterbroadstreet.zone(48036);
Once again, Linwood Town Hall was unusually full Oct. 25 for the biweekly town board meeting. Many residents returned hoping to hear more description about the business plan of Wendy Stewart, Gena Evans and Luke Weller for a residential treatment center at 5810 Cranberry Drive in Linwood Township.
For an overview of the project, read the Oct. 27 story “Linwood residents unhappy with pending group home” or visit tinyurl.com/gv4nw2f.
Mike Jungbauer, town building and inspections official, assured the gathered community members: “We have all the solid numbers. We went through the house with the state electrical inspector. We found seven things that needed updating, (but) we found no things that needed permits. We have a man from (the Minnesota) Pollution Control Agency working with us on

East Columbus businesses look for exposure

Paul Rignell
Columbus Reporter
The city of Columbus is home to many businesses, including several that are close to the State Highway 97-Lake Drive bridge interchange with Interstate 35.broadstreet.zone(48036);
However, most of the business owners with lots east of I-35 do not feel that enough potential customers know how to reach their lots, and the owners have asked for help from city officials.
City Council members on Oct. 26 reviewed a petition signed by owners of nine businesses who are seeking a sign that would list their business names at the corner of Highway 97 and Hornsby Street to direct traffic to their lots. Most of the businesses sell certain types of products, from boats and snowmobiles to utility trailers, gym equipment and quilting machines and supplies.
Some of the businesses are directly accessible from Hornsby Street south of 97, but most of the affected businesses have addresses on the connecting Feller Street or 152nd

Local driver connects vets with health care

Photo by Paul RignellRandy Koivisto assists a veteran who is headed from Chisago County to a VA hospital in Minneapolis.
Paul Rignell
Contributing Writerbroadstreet.zone(48036);
A typical medical patient in the far north metro may wake well before dawn on a day when they have scheduled a morning doctor’s visit in Minneapolis or another city more than 30 miles away.
Some patients may be unable to get to those metro clinics or hospitals on their own, and for that they are grateful there are servants like Randy Koivisto.
Often up to four times per month, he may rise hours before daybreak to drive from his home in Stacy to a garage in North Branch, where he climbs behind the wheel of a Chisago County Veterans Services van.
On the morning of Oct. 14, when he had a driving assignment, Koivisto went north from the county garage to Rush City to pick up one rider before cutting back
