Annexation request denied for family on FLAS border

Submitted photoJoe Kiesling recently petitioned for his property, the location of which is circled on this map, to be annexed into the Mahtomedi school district. His neighbors to the south and directly across the street are already in that district and he wants to see his grandchildren join the other neighborhood kids in the Mahtomedi schools. The Forest Lake Area School Board denied the request.
A detachment request filed by a resident who lives on the border of the Forest Lake and Mahtomedi school districts was a source of some controversy Sept. 8 as school board members questioned, discussed, and ultimately denied the measure.
Joe Kiesling lives on Homestead Ave. N. in Hugo and his property is in the Forest Lake Area School District, albeit right on the line. Several houses to the south of the Kiesling property as well as directly across the street are in the Mahtomedi Public School District.

Listen live and make it local

Music is a thing that can affect people in an impossibly large number of ways. For many, connecting with a lyric or a singer’s voice or a song’s subject matter can elicit emotion like very few other things can. It is with this in mind that I am writing to promote the seeking out of live and local music and also to educate about how it can often be found for little to no cost.
Seeing a music show in a packed arena that seats 50,000 is certainly an experience in and of itself and is oftentimes the only possible way to see top-selling nationally known or world renowned artists. There is no problem with seeking out that kind of entertainment, but it is important to realize that there is also worthwhile music to be experienced at small venues in densely populated cities and towns, and oftentimes those events provide a

Road projects aplenty discussed in Wyoming

Amy Doeun
Wyoming Reporter
Road work was the big topic of discussion at the Sept. 5 Wyoming City Council meeting.broadstreet.zone(48036);
Resident Irv Hanson attended during the open forum at the beginning of the meeting. He was concerned about the speed limit on Goodview Avenue.
“Every town you go through, they turn the speed down – Rush City, Harris – we need to cut back on our speed limit,” he told the council. “I think our council needs to get behind it and do something on that. Whatever it takes to get the speed down. We should have some say as local residents.”
“We will look at that and see what we can do,” Mayor Lisa Iverson said.
Also on the agenda was payment two to Forest Lake Contracting for the 2017 street reconstruction project.
“They are making great progress,” City Engineer Mark Erichson said. “They are working ahead of the completion date, which was mid-October. They are

Fairview seeks blood pressure medication study participants

Minnesotans with high blood pressure may be eligible to take part in a Fairview research study exploring the role genetics can play in finding the best treatment options for patients with high blood pressure.
“We believe we can dramatically cut the time, cost and side effects involved in managing high blood pressure through the use of gene-specific treatment protocols,” Fairvew Medical Group vice president of medical practice Dr. Dang Tran said in a press release.broadstreet.zone(48036);
To conduct the study, Fairview is partnering with Geneticure, a Minnesota-based pharmacogenomics testing company. Early research indicates Geneticure’s patented genetic test can help clinicians personalize hypertension treatment which may result in faster, better care.
All study participants will be asked to complete up to eight clinic visits over the course of 12 months, the cost of which would be covered by the study. Participants will only be responsible for the costs of prescribed medication and any lab tests
