Minnesotans with high blood pressure may be eligible to take part in a Fairview research study exploring the role genetics can play in finding the best treatment options for patients with high blood pressure.
“We believe we can dramatically cut the time, cost and side effects involved in managing high blood pressure through the use of gene-specific treatment protocols,” Fairvew Medical Group vice president of medical practice Dr. Dang Tran said in a press release.broadstreet.zone(48036);
To conduct the study, Fairview is partnering with Geneticure, a Minnesota-based pharmacogenomics testing company. Early research indicates Geneticure’s patented genetic test can help clinicians personalize hypertension treatment which may result in faster, better care.
All study participants will be asked to complete up to eight clinic visits over the course of 12 months, the cost of which would be covered by the study. Participants will only be responsible for the costs of prescribed medication and any lab tests

SWAT called to Janero standoff
On the afternoon of Sept. 15, a standoff between police and an unknown person developed on Janero Avenue North in Forest Lake. A SWAT team was called to the scene, neighbors were evacuated, and the scene was contained as law enforcement negotiated with the suspect. The entrance to Janero Avenue from North Shore Trail was barricaded from incoming traffic and remained so at the time this story was updated. City scrutinizes Fenway maintenance

The city of Forest Lake has stepped in fix some problems that have contributed to the deterioration of one of Fenway Park’s baseball fields only a few years after it was remodeled, but the city’s Parks, Trails, and Lakes Commission and the Forest Lake Baseball Association are looking for a long-term solution – potentially one that doesn’t involve the Forest Lake Area Athletic Association, which is currently responsible for managing Fenway.
The commission held a special meeting Aug. 30 to discuss the conditions of Fenway fields, particularly baseball Fenway Field 5, after some turf experts had visited the park earlier in the month.
