LILA creates interactive dragon art installation

Lakes International Language Academy visual arts students in grades 6 to 12 created patterned dragon scales in abstract designs based on the trademarked Zentangle Method, known for its meditative quality and accessibility for all learners. The pieces of artwork were assembled into a pair of dragon wings. The dragon is the school’s mascot. Students have been taking pictures of themselves with the dragon wings and sharing what makes them proud to be a LILA Dragon using the school hashtag, #DragonPride.
“We were inspired by the street artist Kelsey Montegue and her ‘#whatliftsyou’ project that encourages people to take pictures of themselves with her ‘wings’ and share them on social media,” LILA instructor Ann Jacobs said in a press release. “We wanted an interactive way for students to see that social media can have a positive impact; they also see how the digital world can intersect with art.”broadstreet.zone(48036);

Submitted PhotoPolice Chief Paul Hoppe, Reserve officer Dan Gnau and some citizens of Wyoming all sit down for a cup of coffee at The Nesting Grounds on Wednesday Oct. 4.
A morning cup of coffee came with a side of cops and donuts Oct. 4 at the Nesting Grounds coffee shop in Wyoming. The Wyoming Police Department took to the Nesting Grounds for its first Coffee with a Cop event, something leadership hoped would give the citizens of Wyoming a chance to connect with the officers.
“There was no agenda, just a time where we could answer questions and concerns,” Police Chief Paul Hoppe said. “I think it’s important we get out in the community and let people have conversations with us, ask us questions they wouldn’t normally ask.”broadstreet.zone(48036);
The success of the event was apparent before it even began.

Hope for healing

John Klawiter
Faith Columnist
In 2016, Faith Lutheran Church sold the estate of one of our members, Dorothy Clingman, who gifted it to the congregation in her will.broadstreet.zone(48036);
The congregation designated part of the proceeds for mission grants that foster a partnership or create a new ministry. The hope was these new grants would create energy and passion for ministry by encouraging all of us to think about how we want to invest in our ministry and open our eyes to the needs of our community and world.
Dorothy’s gift continues to give back to the community of Forest Lake through the spiritual entrepreneurship of the grant recipients.
One of the people who received a grant, Shannon Dunn, heard about this opportunity while sitting with her family at the baptism of her granddaughter.
It was an emotional day. But not for the reasons you might think.
It was a reminder of a loved one who wasn’t there.broadstreet.zone(50962);
