Council discusses group compositions
At the Forest Lake City Council’s June 12 meeting, the council resolved, for now, an ongoing dispute about the composition of the city’s Airport Commission.
Since January, the commission has had two sitting council members on it: Ed Eigner, the council’s designated liaison to the commission, and Sam Husnik, who was simply a citizen member until he took a seat on the council following the fall 2016 election. Initially, city staff and the council did not believe that there was any sort of legal conflict with both men serving on the commission at the same time, but eventually, staff determined that having more than one council member on the commission was a violation of the city’s ordinance regarding the commission. In multiple conversations about this topic this year, a number of solutions have been proposed, ranging from changing the ordinance to allow more council members on the commission, changing the ordinance
Dangerous drop
The Wyoming Police Department reported June 15 that an unknown person appeared to have dumped prescription medication, including dangerous and addictive medications like oxycodone, on an unnamed residential street in the area. The department encouraged residents who don’t know how to dispose of unneeded medication to drop them off with law enforcement. The Police Department is currently in the process of setting up its own prescription drop-off location, and until then, Chicago County residents can drop off medication with the county’s Sheriff’s Office.

Annie Oakley rides again
Masquers Theatre Company is celebrating its 40th year with its summer musical production of Irving Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun. This musical will be performed in the Forest Lake Area High School auditorium June 29 to July 16 with Thurs., Fri., and Sat. performances at 7 p.m. and Sun. performances at 2 p.m.
Annie Oakley is the best shot around, and she manages to support her little brother and sisters by selling the game she hunts. When she’s discovered by Col. Buffalo Bill, he persuades this novel sharpshooter to join his Wild West Show. It only takes one glance for her to fall head over heels for dashing shooting ace Frank Butler, who headlines the show. She soon eclipses Butler as the main attraction, which, while good for business, is bad for romance. Butler hightails it off to join a rival show, his bruised male ego leading the way, but is
