Softball falls in section finals
The Forest Lake softball team could not overcome top-seeded Anoka in the Section 7AAAA finals, losing 3-1 on June 1 in Ramsey.
The Rangers had already lost to Anoka 2-1 in extra innings the previous day to fall into the elimination bracket, before beating Blaine 5-3 to set up the rematch. The Rangers faced a tall task in needing to upset the Tornadoes twice in order to advance to state: Anoka had only lost one game all season.broadstreet.zone(48036);
Both teams turned to their ace pitchers, junior Megan Baniecke for Forest Lake, senior Amber Elliott for Anoka.
“Megan was our workhorse; she pitched almost every inning of the section tournament,” head coach Sean Hall said. “She always gave us a chance to win.”
The Rangers lit the scoreboard in the third inning. With one out, catcher Logan Anderson drew a walk and was replaced by courtesy runner Lindsey Johnson. After Johnson stole second, Amanda Gemeunden

July 1 will usher in a new era for the Forest Lake school district as Linda Madsen will officially exit her position as superintendent and welcome current Forest Lake Area High School Principal Steve Massey as her replacement.
“One of the things I like about Forest Lake Schools and the leadership group is that no one has an ego,” she said. “They are not about themselves or furthering their own agendas, but rather put the focus on the kids. I have maintained that same attitude during my time here by working hard, doing the right thing and focusing on the kids. I hope it has served the district well.”broadstreet.zone(48036);

Rangers go to state on Klein’s shutout
The Rangers celebrate their section championship on the mound just after the last out.
The Forest Lake baseball advanced to the state tournament after winning 1-0 over Duluth East in the Sectional 7AAAA championship game at Mark Park in Princeton June 7.
As the last remaining undefeated team in the double-elimination tournament, the Rangers’ season was not on the line, with a second-chance game to be played had they lost.broadstreet.zone(48036);
Instead, the Rangers confirmed their place in the Class AAAA tournament on the strength of a two-hit performance by pitcher Cameron Klein and a clutch hit by first baseman Mitch Jerde.
“We’ve told these players, in section play it often comes down to close games: well-pitched games, good defense and timely hitting,” head coach Tal Gravelle said. “That’s what we got today.”
Cameron Klein pitched a two-hit, no-run gem to help the Rangers make state.
Klein held the Greyhounds in check throughout the afternoon, striking out
