The North Lakes Academy girls track team sent a group consisting of just three athletes to a scored meet at the International School of Minnesota in Eden Prairie on May 6, but despite that numerical disadvantage, the Huskies finished second out of six teams with 89 points.
Calvin Christian only just edged the Huskies with 97. The three girls finished well ahead of full teams from Cristo Rey Jesuit (68), the International School (45), Hiawatha (26) and St. Paul Prep (16).broadstreet.zone(48036);

Undefeated Huskies to host TCAC tourney
No opponent has yet been able to stop the North Lakes softball team. The Huskies picked up another pair of wins last week, working a 10-0 rout over Academy for Science and Agriculture on May 2 and a 16-1 victory over Christian Life on May 4 to improve to 11-0 on the season. In the CLA game, Maggie Thiele struck out eight and knocked in three runs. The City of Wyoming provides drinking water to its residents from a groundwater source: three wells ranging from 650 to 803 feet deep, that draw water from the Mt. Simon and Tunnel City-Mt.Simon aquifers.

Man allegedly makes threats with machete
A Forest Lake man was recently charged with second-degree assault after he allegedly menaced a relative with a long knife or machete in a home on Bay Drive.
According to court records, on April 2, Derek Robert Olsen, 24, of Forest Lake, was in the garage of a home in the 900 block of Bay Drive Southeast, where he had been staying, when a relative came into the garage. Olsen, whom the relative believed to be under the influence of some kind of controlled subject, allegedly held a blade the victim identified as a 2- to 3-foot-long machete to the man’s throat, causing the man to believe that Olsen was going to cut off his head. The man told police he was able to talk to Olsen and calm him down, at which point Olsen took the blade away from the man’s throat and began using it to hit various objects

How many times have we heard “We live in a democracy”? Or “It’s a constitutional republic”? Or some combination of “republic,” “democracy,” “constitutional” or “representative”?broadstreet.zone(48036);
Each of these words has an exact meaning. When misused, whether intentionally or not, they convey an unintended meaning.
Example: We elect representatives to all levels of government in a democratic fashion, yet we are not a representative democracy. So what are we? What form of government do we or did we have?
The answer lies in who is the sovereign.
In a democracy, sovereignty lies with the whole. In a representative democracy, those elected to represent a portion of the whole may implement any law they wish as long as 50 percent plus one agree. An example could be that on Tuesdays, everyone must wear a shirt of a certain color, or any money earned in excess of a specific amount will be seized by the

The historic Trout Air Fishing Experience at Running Aces Casino & Racetrack opened for the season May 6. The trout pond is good for fishing enthusiasts of all ages and does not require a fishing license or gear.

With the True Team track and field sectional meets to be run this week, the Forest Lake teams went to Rochester Mayo on May 5 to for the Dick Norman Invitational, which was scored according to True Team rules. The Ranger girls won their meet with 830 points; the boys took fourth in theirs with 726.5.broadstreet.zone(48036);
The individual highlight of the meet came when junior Jenna Parent cleared 11 feet, 4 inches in the pole vault to break the all-time Forest Lake record. That height earned her first place, and started off a 1-2-3 Ranger sweep, with sophomores Sofia Dodge (10-6) and Taylor Richot (9-6) following.

Reports: City will keep Forest Lake Police Department
Forest Lake City Councilwoman Mara Bain has reported that the city of Forest Lake has reached a tentative labor agreement with the unions representing Forest Lake police officers, which she said will result in a council move to withdraw its acceptance of the proposal from Washington County Sheriff’s Office for contract law enforcement. This move would mean that the city will continue to utilize the Forest Lake Police Department as Forest Lake’s primary law enforcement agency.
“The city is going to do an official statement, but I am going to confirm,” she told The Times regarding the deal with the unions, adding that the City Council will pass a resolution on the topic on Monday, May 15. The meeting to discuss the topic will start at 6:30 p.m.broadstreet.zone(48036);
