Back in February of this year, Lord Mayor Quirk announced a plan to install fountains in several parts of the city – Forest Lake among them – with a budget of $6 million. Dowse Lagoon and the lake at Forest Lake, in addition, would be given new water features that would help draw more visitors to these places.
Recently, however, the Brisbane City Council has ended up in a fight with the state government over the government’s failure to pay for intersection upgrades associated with the Queens Wharf project and the Progress Road project in southwest Brisbane. It seems a memorandum of understanding was never signed, and the state government is how hedging from paying for the upgrades.
