The Nov. 2 Scandia City Council work session consisted of discussion of operating budgets for 2017, a potential job offer to a Public Works director candidate, the city dog ordinance, its no-parking ordinance, a road right of way maintenance policy and the value to the city of the Fire Department’s scuba and dive team.
Budgets
Discussions surrounding 2017 budgets began with a presentation to the council from Fire Chief Mike Hinz concerning his department’s projected budget needs. Council Member Dan Lee questioned the expenditure of approximately $5,000 annually for a Fire Department dive team, saying, “Washington County handles the large majority of water rescue and recovery.” Hinz said that Scandia Fire has a mutual aid agreement with other jurisdictions, including Washington County. The council also started preliminary discussions on budgets for parks, public works, the equipment replacement fund, the local road improvement fund and both sewer funds.
