Kaden Wasson, of Chisago City, has enjoyed some great birthday celebrations through his 11 years.
Having a birthday in February has meant that many of his special party activities with friends have been focused indoors, including at bowling centers, laser tag arenas and heated swimming pools.
Wanting to plan for his recent birthday on Feb. 12, Kaden’s mother Lisa Wasson asked her son in late January about what or how he might want to celebrate this year.
Thinking back to past birthday fun and to recent gifts such as a dartboard and a PlayStation game console for Christmas and other occasions, Kaden could not think of new ideas or requests for his birthday.
In response, Lisa asked her son if he would like to jump in the annual

Artist creates contemporary iconography at Willowbrook
Photos by Ryan HowardJessie DeCorsey fills in some detail in the Nativity painting she’s working on in the lobby of Willowbrook Church in Forest Lake. DeCorsey and church leaders hope her ongoing process inspires congregants to take a fresh look at the people of the Bible.
Almost as interesting as Jessie DeCorsey’s work is the varied reaction to it.
As the Lindstrom painter studiously applied oil to canvas March 5, crafting an image of a couple enraptured by their infant son, some passersby offered a quizzical glance as they went on their way. Some approached DeCorsey with questions or comments, while others stared transfixed from a distance, seemingly unsure if they should be viewing the intimate act of creation. A few children munched on doughnuts in the middle distance, peering curiously.broadstreet.zone(48036);
The reaction is why DeCorsey is painting her latest work, a modern twist on the Nativity, in the lobby of Willowbrook Church
Bluebird Workshop to be held at state park
On March 18 starting at 1 p.m. at William O’Brien State Park, special presenter Julie Osterbauer will take visitors through the world of the Eastern bluebird. Call the park at 651-433-0500 to reserve one of the nestbox kits that the Friends of William O’Brien State Park will be selling for $18 each. Friends group members will be on hand to help with assembly, but guests are asked to bring a hammer if they plan to make a nestbox.
