Ranger middle-schoolers win Metro East Conference wrestling title

Young grapplers outduel Hastings in championship match
On a day that varsity head coach Joe Kunshier called “big for the future of our program,” the Forest Lake seventh- and eighth-grade wrestling team won the Metro East Conference duals championship on Saturday, Dec. 10.broadstreet.zone(48036);
For middle-school purposes, the Metro East Conference includes some familiar Suburban East Conference foes like Stillwater, Roseville, Park, Woodbury and White Bear Lake, as well as a few teams from Wisconsin in addition to the MEC’s usual membership. Fifteen schools entered the four-round tournament, with Hastings entering a second team to fill out the bracket.
The Rangers, seeded second in the tournament, dominated their first two matches, knocking out Roseville 69-3 and Hastings 86-0.
Even in the semifinals, the Rangers easily advanced past South St. Paul, 62-67.
In the final, Forest Lake met No. 1-seed Hastings and defeated them
